Live In Berlin (Live-Album)

Digital / CD / Vinyl LP · #4 · 62:50

"KY – Live in Berlin" was recorded in January 2019 at Lido Berlin and documents the unity of a unique quartet that had toured extensively and played with great intensity over the preceding years. KY — the project of Sebastian Studnitzky — stands for minimal, sophisticated yet deeply emotional compositions that are stretched wide open in performance. Studnitzky combines virtuosic, wholly unpretentious piano playing with his unmistakable, almost vocal trumpet tone. In pieces such as "Organic" or the nearly nineteen-minute "Egis", the band dives into an intense journey of groove and sound, where free improvisation and fine detail hold each other in balance. From "Watergate" through "Mertola" to "Luba", a live document of rare cohesion emerges — personal, breathing and live in the truest sense: music captured in the very moment of its making.

Multi-instrumentalist Sebastian Studnitzky (KY), an ECHO Jazz and Opus Klassik laureate, records his epic album KY! live with the Odesa Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra at Berlin's Meistersaal.

Sebastian Studnitzky, also known as KY, is a unique voice between jazz, classical and electronic music. A multi-instrumentalist on trumpet and piano, he creates sound worlds that are both intimate and cinematic, has performed at major festivals worldwide, received the ECHO Jazz and Opus Klassik awards, and collaborated with artists across genres from jazz innovators to electronic pioneers. In a stylistic departure from his ECHO Jazz-winning orchestral project MEMENTO, his KY work draws its aesthetic from electronic music and is performed by a scaled-down ensemble. "KY!" is his new, epic album and the name of a powerful ensemble that unites multi-instrumentalism, genre-transcendence and raw emotional depth, joined by the Odesa Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. As Studnitzky describes it, he gathered his favourite musicians and the Odesa orchestra - with whom he had just toured extensively - in Berlin's legendary Meistersaal to record the album live before an intimate audience and entirely without overdubs, in the hall that once hosted David Bowie, Depeche Mode and U2. The result is grooves of hypnotic intensity, melodies of pure beauty and a collective sound of rare strength - a radical commitment to beauty, truth and togetherness.
