"Fluss" is the third album by trumpeter Richard Koch and his quartet on XJAZZ! Music. Koch — known from the bands of Nils Frahm, Jimi Tenor and Beatsteaks — leads a sound that fuses jazz with soul and dance music into something songful and his own, full of playful solos and grooving melodies. Saxophonist Uli Kempendorff guests on several tracks ("Lettin' Go", "Moon", "Whoza Mtwana"), widening the quartet with a second melodic voice. The original compositions, written by Koch and his bandmates, move between driving groove and quieter, almost song-like moments such as "Flowing Up" and the tender "Smile". True to its name — "Fluss" is German for river — the album keeps flowing: a current of energy and melody that never stands still, showing the quartet at its most immediate and infectious.

Richard Koch Quartett

Trumpeter Richard Koch, known from Nils Frahm and the Beatsteaks, leads a Berlin all-star quartet melting jazz into soul and dance music across the albums Wald and Stadt.

Richard Koch is a trumpet player known from his work with big names such as Nils Frahm, Jimi Tenor, Peter Fox and the Beatsteaks. As the leader of the Richard Koch Quartett, he blends his wide range of experience into a sound that melts jazz into soul and dance music, with an all-star line-up from the Berlin jazz scene. After the success of his debut album "Wald" (German for "forest"), the album "Stadt" ("city") brings the fresh sound of the woods into the cities - as on the single "In the Sky," which mixes Afrobeats with urban jazz. His warm, singing trumpet and floating, groovy songs create smooth, uplifting atmospheres, reminding listeners that there is always sunshine even behind the thickest clouds. Critics have praised his music as "perfect jazz improvisation" (Nils Frahm) and as some of the most joyful music they have heard (Bert Noglik).
