„Aurora“ is the debut album of contemporary jazz quintet EYRA, formed in Stuttgart in 2021. Its twelve tracks delve into an emotional spectrum of courage, fear, self-consciousness, vulnerability and trust. Recorded in October 2024 at Iceland's Sundlaugin Studio near Reykjavík, the album captures the essence of the Icelandic winter: a blend of modern jazz, ambient and experimental sounds shaped by founder and saxophonist Daniel Sauer, whose compositions are influenced by Scandinavian artists. Alongside Sauer play Sebastian Minet (guitar), Moritz Langmaier (piano), Moritz Holdenried (bass) and Felix Eckenfelder (drums), with Icelandic guitarist Ómar Guðjónsson guesting on several tracks on guitar and pedal steel. From „Vulnerability“ through the title track „Aurora“ to „Hvammsvík“ and „Folksong“, the band creates a safe space that embraces both intimacy and strong expressivity. Recorded by Birgir Jón Birgisson, mixed by Daniel Mudrack and mastered by Christoph Stickel.
