Maia Wackernagel is a classically trained pianist (Basel Conservatory, master studies in Paris). After her studies she occupied herself as a versatile performer from classical works to contemporary music, hip-hop and film music. It was not until late that she actually came to jazz, after 20 years of devoting herself mainly to her family and making only sporadic escapades into concert performance. This exciting new terrain opened up unlimited possibilities of musical expression for her.

Concerts with various musicians at home and abroad followed. In 2019, a piano solo recital (improvisations) in London and invitations to international festivals in Abidjan, Ivory Coast and in Yaoundé, Cameroon. She has been able to further expand her horizons in collaborations with African musicians.

Out of the silence of the pandemic, the recordings for her current double CD "Patterns Of Self And Other" were made in 2022, which was released on XJAZZ! Music.
