RSxT - Roman Schuler extended Trio

Flourish

Digital / Vinyl · #1

On their second album "Flourish", RSxT – the band, project and collective around pianist Roman Schuler – tear down genre boundaries and explore the edges of new jazz and groove music. A musical chameleon that travels from one sound to the next, the album fuses classical jazz with the energy of electronic music and the beats and grooves of soul and hip hop, pairing analog piano with Moog synthesizers and Ableton samples. Between hip-hop and electro grooves a smooth piano solo suddenly emerges; the trumpet of studio guest Sebastian Studnitzky floats over wafting basses; Julian Maier-Hauff drops remixed techno beats, and the record closes with a surprising rap feature by Luis Baltes. Across six tracks – from "Bloom" to "All Into It" – "Flourish" invites both dancing and introspection, reaching across generations.

RSxT - Roman Schuler extended Trio

Project of Karlsruhe pianist Roman Schuler, fusing trio and electronics into jazz, pop, hip-hop and techno.

Roman Schuler, born in Karlsruhe in 1981, is a pianist and keyboardist working between pop and jazz. After studying cultural management he trained in piano in Hamburg and completed a Master in Production in Mannheim, working with pop and hip-hop artists such as Ferris MC, LOTTE and Max Mutzke. RSxT — the Roman Schuler extended Trio — is a band, project and collective centred on him, at its core with Konrad Herbolzheimer (bass) and Alex Klauck (drums). On the album "Flourish" (2019, XJAZZ! Music) the trio uses a massive keyboard sound and matching groove to break down the boundaries between jazz, electronic music, pop and hip-hop — from atmospheric piano ballad to techno track, with guests including trumpeter Sebastian Studnitzky.
