„Voices“ is an immersive journey inward – into one's own feelings, into the history and experience of one's ancestors, across years and distances. Recorded by Ukraine's Pokaz Trio, founded in 2016 in Odesa by pianist and composer Andrii Pokaz, the album sits deliberately on the border of genres, fusing jazz, classical and ethnic music with electronic textures. All compositions and the production are by Andrii Pokaz, who handles both piano and electronics here, joined by Alex Poliakov on drums and Eugene Myrmyr on bass. From the opening „Intro (Taken by The Sea)“ through the sprawling „Leaving Home“ and the wintry „Waiting for the Snow“ to the title track and „Childhood Fears“, a narrative arc unfolds built entirely on listening to one's own nature and trusting oneself. Released on digital and vinyl, „Voices“ helped set off a new wave of contemporary jazz coming out of Ukraine.
