Reconnect

Digital / LP (limited coloured 12") / CD · XJM25018 · 46:21

With „Reconnect“, drummer, composer and producer Max Buettner gathers original modern jazz compositions enriched by poems, short stories, socially critical statements and audio fragments. The album was developed over four years during stays in the USA and South America – with a direct message to the German jazz scene and its traditionalists. Its ten tracks arc from „Silver Ant“ through „A Blues For San Telmo“ and „Fjords Of Patagonia“ to „Belly Dance“. Buettner (drums, composition, production) surrounds himself with an international cast: Kenyatta Joyner (alto saxophone), Theo Kury (bass), Hannah Who (vocals) and Christian Kata Carrasco (guitar), with spoken-word contributions from Till Neumann, Florine Puluj and Colossus MC. The result is a layered work poised between groove, narrative and stance. Released on XJAZZ! Music.

Max Buettner

Freiburg-trained drummer and producer whose album "Reconnect" blends modern jazz with poetry and social critique.

Max Buettner is a Germany-based drummer, songwriter, educator and producer, born in Aschaffenburg near Frankfurt. From 2012 he studied drums at the University for Art, Design and Popular Music in Freiburg, graduating with a Bachelor (drums, songwriting & producing) and a Master in music education — studying with, among others, Gary Barone, formerly Frank Zappa's trumpeter. As a sideman he has shared stages and studios with bands such as United We Fall, TONEWOOD and LOLA funkt, while always pursuing his solo project (albums "Drifting", 2017, and "Lucid Dreams", 2023). His album "Reconnect" (2025), grown over four years, gathers modern jazz compositions enriched with poems, short stories, socially critical statements and audio fragments — much of it created during travels in the USA and South America.
