Lukas Heckers

Now And So Far

Digital / EP · XJM25005

With „Now And So Far“, drummer and composer Lukas Heckers presents his debut EP – recorded live and genre-fluid, moving between Drum & Bass, Dub, R&B and free improvisation. Across three sprawling pieces – „Cruising through the night“, „Where do we come from“ and „Flying saucer“ – acoustic and electronic elements fuse into a driving, layered sound. The EP circles questions of identity, heritage and the tension between utopian ideals and reality. Heckers gathers an eight-piece Berlin collective for the project: Lilly Ketelsen (vocals), The Funkologist (MC, sampler), Elias Vollmer (keys, synth), Shogo Seifert (trumpet, saxophone, synth), Max Loebner (guitar) and Chris Sergeant (bass). Mixed by Clemens Barnikow and mastered by Diego Wichert, the release arrives on XJAZZ! Music – an open, physical statement poised between club music and improvised jazz.

Lukas Heckers

Berlin drummer and producer whose seven-piece band weaves drum & bass, dub and R&B into groove-based jazz.

Lukas Heckers (b. 1999) is a Berlin-based drummer, composer and producer. After studying music in Leipzig (2018–2024) he moved to Berlin in 2023 to focus on his solo career, and since 2025 has been studying jazz at the Berlin University of the Arts. His live-recorded EP "Now And So Far" blends acoustic and electronic elements into a genre-fluid mix of drum & bass, dub, R&B and improvisational sound experiments. Heckers' shift toward groove-based songwriting — including vocals and rap — is strongly inspired by drummer Louis Cole. The seven-piece band of close friends gives voices, horns, synths, guitar, bass and drums the space to intertwine into a sound that is at once precise and free-flowing.
