Joanna Wojtkiewicz is a Polish jazz vocalist and lyricist based in Copenhagen. Her work is grounded in an honest approach to interpretation, with a particular focus on lyrics, phrasing and the interaction between musicians.Alongside jazz standards, her repertoire draws on Polish poetry and music, reflecting her connection to both the Polish and Danish jazz scenes. A graduate of the Composition and Music Theory programme at the Academy of Music in Poznań, Joanna also holds a bachelor’s degree in Rhythmic Music from the Danish National Academy of Music in Odense. She has received several Polish jazz and vocal awards, including the Grand Prix of the Ladies’ Jazz Festival in Gdynia, and has performed at venues and festivals across Europe. Her 2024 EP Komeda – Romanse, recorded with pianist Mateusz Kaszuba, explored the music of Krzysztof Komeda through Polish poetry. Her debut full-length album, Songbook, recorded with Mateusz Kaszuba on the piano, Michał Rutkowski on the double bass and Jan Szkudlarek on the drums continues her interest in the relationship between music and words. The record offers new arrangements of lesser-known standards alongside original lyrics and Polish poetry, with guest appearances by New York trumpeter and vocalist Benny Benack III and Danish guitarist Jacob Artved.
