„Two Trick Pony“ is the debut album of HardyLackner, the joint duo project of German-American pianist Benny Lackner and Berlin-based drummer Rainer Winch. The two have played together in a wide range of settings since 1996; for this project they deliberately chose the duo format to explore new sounds in a pared-down instrumentation with electronic and ambient gear they don't use elsewhere. Lackner plays Wurlitzer and electronics, Winch drums and keyboard bass. The album's repertoire spans a wide arc: works by classical composers such as Brahms, Schubert and Eisler sit alongside pieces by David Bowie and Gnarls Barkley as well as numerous original compositions. From this tension between tradition and pop, acoustic playing and electronic processing, emerges a singular crossover record that keeps the borders between jazz, classical and song material deliberately porous. „Two Trick Pony“ was released on 30 October 2020 on XJAZZ! Music.
