Carl Wittigs Aurora Oktett

Continuity And Resonance

Digital / CD / LP · XJM24010

With „Continuity And Resonance“, Carl Wittig's Aurora Oktett presents its second album, blending classical and jazz traditions through an eight-piece ensemble of string quartet and jazz quartet. The record is conceived like a vinyl LP: one side gathers five movements from Matti Oehl's suite (Prelude, Fugue, Scherzo, Intermezzo, Finale), the other four compositions by bandleader and double bassist Carl Wittig. Eight years after the octet's founding and following the 2022 debut „Perspective Suite“, the ensemble sounds more confident and coherent in bridging the two musical worlds. Alongside Wittig and Oehl (alto saxophone) play Pascal Klewer (trumpet), Tom Friedrich (drums) and the string quartet of Ada Schwengebecher and Sophia Rasche (violins), Marie Schutrak (viola) and Franziska Ludwig (cello). Critics praised the assured, effortless writing and the seamless unification of American jazz and European classical music – a rich, multifaceted experience from one of Germany's most interesting interdisciplinary ensembles.
