Echoes Of Marabi

Digital / CD / LP · XJM25011 · 49:00

„Echoes of Marabi“ is a powerful collaboration between South African pianist Yonela Mnana and Swiss saxophonist Benedikt Reising. Rooted in friendship and shared history, the album blends soulful improvisation, deep harmonies from the Soultee Sisters and echoes of Marabi music – a moving tribute to South Africa's musical heritage, filled with struggle, hope and the enduring spirit of Ubuntu. The first single „Tar Road“ is Mnana's heartfelt tribute to his students walking daily from surrounding areas to Ezibeleni High School in Katlehong, capturing the journey as a pilgrimage where music becomes a path to self-discovery, resilience and hope. Mnana and Reising first met in 2018 through The Mill, a Swiss-South African jazz project, and their bond deepened during a 2019 European tour. The album features Yonela Mnana (piano, voice), Benedikt Reising (alto & baritone sax, bass clarinet, flute) and the Soultee Sisters. Released on XJAZZ! Music.
