Júlia Karosi & Kristjan Randalu

Hungarian vocalist Júlia Karosi and Estonian pianist Kristjan Randalu, with Ingrid Jensen, fuse contemporary jazz, folk song and classical music on the intimate album Inner Voice.

"Inner Voice" is the sixth album by Hungarian jazz singer and composer Júlia Karosi, featuring Estonian pianist and composer Kristjan Randalu and trumpeter Ingrid Jensen. One of Hungary's top jazz vocalists, Karosi graduated from the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest and founded her own quartet in 2010; her classical training is evident not only in her impeccable technique and expressive tonalities but also in her repertoire, which ranges from her own compositions to folk songs and works by composers such as Bartók, Kodály, Gershwin and Sondheim, always keeping her personal story at the forefront through the devices of jazz. On this album she fuses contemporary jazz, folk-song arrangements and classical music into a harmonious, profound whole, bridging not only genres but also cultural and musical traditions. Most of the record is a vocal-piano duo of Karosi's compositions and arrangements with Randalu, whose unique way of improvising on classical music has long inspired her, while Jensen's beautiful sound and sensitive musicality add a further dimension. Intimate and direct, the album weaves melancholy and hope into a timeless testament to the universal language of music.
